A pizza box is not a box. It is the only piece of your brand that sits on a customer's dining table for twenty minutes while they eat, gets photographed, and then travels down to the bin room where three neighbours see it. In a Dubai delivery market where the aggregator app owns the customer relationship, the box is the one surface the platform cannot take from you.
Quick answer: pizza boxes are made to your exact size — there is no stock pizza box. At MaxPrint a custom die-cut box at 35×25×10 cm costs AED 1,500 per 100 in corrugated board (AED 15 each) or AED 3,360 per 100 on 400 GSM food-grade board with matt lamination (AED 33.60 each). Both include die making, die cutting and printing. At F&B volumes the economics change completely: our stock-format food boxes run from AED 0.25 to AED 0.89 per piece at 1,000–5,000 units. All prices include 5% VAT. Send your size on WhatsApp (+971 52 210 0909) and you get a costed spec the same day.
Pizza box sizes used in the UAE
Every pizzeria in the UAE works to the pizza diameter, and the box follows it with 1–1.5 cm of clearance so the crust does not touch the wall and go soggy:
- 7" / 18 cm — personal pizza, kids' menu, lunch-deal single. Box footprint roughly 20×20 cm.
- 9" / 23 cm — the small share size, and the most common size on Dubai lunch aggregator listings. Box roughly 25×25 cm.
- 12" / 30 cm — the default medium. Box roughly 33×33 cm. If you only order one size, order this.
- 16" / 40 cm — large / family. Box roughly 43×43 cm. Check your delivery bags fit before you commit to 5,000.
- Half-and-half and calzone trays — 9×11 cm to 15×23 cm rectangles, usually run alongside the round sizes on the same die.
Height matters more than people expect. A 4 cm box is fine for thin crust; a stuffed-crust or deep-pan pizza needs 4.5–5 cm or the cheese welds itself to the lid in the car. Tell us the crust style, not just the diameter.
Corrugated vs food board: which material for a pizza box
There are exactly two sensible answers, and they serve different businesses.
Corrugated board (E-flute or B-flute) is the classic pizza box. The fluted middle layer does two jobs: it holds the lid rigid so a stack of eight boxes on a delivery rider's back does not collapse, and the air channels absorb steam so the base stays crisp longer. It is the only sensible choice above 12 inches. Print quality is good but not glossy — flexo-style solid colours and clean logo work, not photographic gradients.
400 GSM food-grade board with matt lamination is the premium route: a smooth, photographable surface, full-colour capability, and a serious hand-feel. It suits artisan and Neapolitan concepts, dessert pizza, and the 7"–9" sizes where structural load is low. It costs roughly 2.2× the corrugated equivalent at the same size and quantity — which is real money at scale, and worth it if your positioning depends on the unboxing looking expensive.
Kraft vs white: unbleached kraft reads artisan and hides grease marks; white board reads clean and modern but shows every oil spot after ten minutes. If you go white, specify a grease-resistant coating on the inside face.
Real prices: custom pizza boxes and food packaging in the UAE
Live prices from the store — VAT included. The first block is the custom die-cut route (your size, your artwork, low minimum). The second block shows what per-unit cost looks like once you move into F&B production volumes on our stock food-box formats.
| Product | Qty | Price | Per box |
|---|---|---|---|
| Custom corrugated box, 35×25×10 cm, printed | 100 | AED 1,500 | AED 15.00 |
| Custom box, 400 GSM food board, matt laminated | 100 | AED 3,360 | AED 33.60 |
| Hard-case magnet box, 35×25×10 cm (gifting / premium) | 100 | AED 7,350 | AED 73.50 |
| Simple burger box, 250 GSM ivory board | 1,000 | AED 775 | AED 0.78 |
| Simple burger box, 250 GSM ivory board | 5,000 | AED 1,990 | AED 0.40 |
| Fried chicken box (takeaway), lock bottom | 1,000 | AED 890 | AED 0.89 |
| Fried chicken box (takeaway), lock bottom | 5,000 | AED 2,190 | AED 0.44 |
| French fries tray (indoor) | 5,000 | AED 1,250 | AED 0.25 |
Read the two blocks together and the whole pizza-box economy becomes obvious. At 100 pieces you are paying for the die, the setup and the make-ready — the board itself is almost free. At 5,000 pieces the die is already amortised and you are paying for paper and press time, which is why the burger box drops from AED 0.78 to AED 0.40. The single biggest lever on your per-box cost is not the material. It is the quantity. Browse the full range in the Boxes collection.
MOQs: why 100 is possible and 1,000 is sensible
Most Dubai packaging suppliers will not quote a custom pizza box below 3,000 or 5,000 pieces, because the die-cutting setup is the same whether you run 100 boxes or 100,000. We hold a 100-piece minimum on the custom box line specifically so you can do the two things that actually de-risk a launch:
- Prove the size before you commit. Order 100, put real pizza in them, hand them to a rider, and see whether the base sags at 40°C in a car boot in July. A sample run of 100 costs AED 1,500. A wrong 5,000-piece order costs you AED 4,000 and three weeks.
- Cover a soft launch or a pop-up. Ramadan tents, mall activations and a two-week trial menu do not need five thousand boxes.
Once the design is locked, move to 1,000+ and the per-unit cost falls off a cliff. A restaurant doing 40 pizzas a day burns 1,200 boxes a month — at that rate, ordering 5,000 at a time instead of 1,000 is not a stock risk, it is a margin decision.
What to actually print on the box
Most pizza boxes in the UAE waste the lid on a stock photo of a pizza. The customer already has the pizza. Use the space for something that earns money:
- Your direct-order channel. A QR code to your own ordering page or WhatsApp — printed large, on the lid, with a reason to use it ("order direct, skip the platform fee"). This is the single highest-ROI centimetre of a delivery business.
- The reheat instruction. "180°C, 6 minutes, no microwave." Customers photograph it, and it stops the second-day slice tasting like cardboard and getting blamed on you.
- A dated offer. A code with a real expiry converts, and it tells you exactly which box run drove which orders.
- Nothing on the base. Save the money — nobody sees it, and ink on the inner face needs food-safe certification anyway.
Keep the design to two or three spot colours if you are on corrugated board. Fine gradients and 6pt type do not survive flexo printing on a fluted surface — they survive perfectly on the laminated food board, which is one more reason the premium route exists.
Food-safety and artwork rules for the UAE
Food-contact packaging in the UAE must be produced from food-grade material, and Dubai Municipality expects the box to carry the trade name and, for anything with a shelf life, the relevant product information. In practice: use food-grade board on the inside face, keep ink off the food-contact surface unless it is certified food-safe, and print your trade licence name somewhere on the box exactly as it appears on your licence — not just your Instagram handle.
On the artwork side, supply CMYK at 300 dpi with 3 mm bleed, fonts outlined, and dielines on a separate layer. If you do not have a dieline, we produce one from your dimensions and send it back for approval before anything is cut.
How to order pizza boxes in Dubai
- Send three numbers: pizza diameter, crust height, and monthly volume. That is enough for us to quote.
- Choose the material — corrugated for structure and cost, 400 GSM laminated board for premium print. We will tell you honestly which one your concept needs.
- Approve the dieline and proof. Nothing gets cut until you sign off. Delivery is UAE-wide: Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates.
Pay by card (Amex included), split into four with Tabby or Tamara at 0% interest, or bank transfer. Payment is taken in full before production. If you are opening a new outlet, the Restaurant Opening Kit bundles 1,000 burger boxes, 500 paper cups, 500 menus and 2,000 table mats for AED 2,299 — AED 246 less than buying the four separately, with one consistent design across all of them.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a custom printed pizza box cost in the UAE?
A custom die-cut printed box at 35×25×10 cm costs AED 1,500 per 100 in corrugated board (AED 15 each) or AED 3,360 per 100 on 400 GSM food-grade board with matt lamination (AED 33.60 each), VAT included. Both prices include die making, die cutting and printing. Per-unit cost falls sharply at 1,000+ pieces — our stock-format food boxes run AED 0.25–0.89 each at 1,000–5,000 units.
What is the minimum order for printed pizza boxes in Dubai?
100 pieces on the custom box line — far below the 3,000–5,000 minimum most UAE packaging suppliers quote. Use 100 as a real-world test run, then move to 1,000+ once the size and design are proven.
What size pizza box do I need?
Add 1–1.5 cm to the pizza diameter for clearance. A 12" (30 cm) pizza needs roughly a 33×33 cm box; a 16" (40 cm) pizza needs roughly 43×43 cm. Box height matters too: 4 cm is enough for thin crust, but stuffed crust or deep pan needs 4.5–5 cm.
Corrugated or food board — which is better for pizza boxes?
Corrugated for anything 12" and above: the fluted layer holds a stack rigid and vents steam so the base stays crisp. 400 GSM laminated food board for premium 7"–9" concepts where full-colour photographic print and hand-feel matter more than structural load.
How long does production take?
Custom die-cut boxes require die making before printing, so plan around two to three weeks from artwork approval for a first run; repeat orders on an existing die are faster because the die already exists. Our stock-format food boxes run 12 business days after final design approval. Confirm your exact date with your quote.
Can you print on kraft (brown) pizza boxes?
Yes. Unbleached kraft is popular for artisan and sourdough concepts, reads sustainable, and hides grease marks better than white board. Print in one or two solid colours for the cleanest result on kraft.
