The three badge families (and who each one is for)
1. Button badges — events, campaigns, giveaways
A printed paper face sealed under a plastic or mylar film, crimped into a shell with a pin on the back. These are the cheapest full-colour option, which is why they dominate exhibition giveaways, university open days, awareness campaigns and retail promotions. Colour reproduction is excellent — photographs and gradients print cleanly — but the badge is not built for a five-year uniform programme.
Standard round is 44 mm. Oval versions cost slightly more because the shell tooling is different. Smaller 15–20 mm awareness pins are used for causes and lapel wear.
2. Name badges — hotels, clinics, retail, reception
Anything a staff member wears daily on a uniform. There are three sub-types worth knowing:
- Lens cover badges — a printed insert protected by a clear domed cover. Cheapest daily-wear option and easy to reprint when someone leaves.
- Insert / reusable badges — a permanent frame with a swappable paper card. Buy the frames once, reprint only the cards. The right call for teams with high turnover or seasonal staff.
- Metal and PVC injected badges — the name is part of the badge, not a card behind a window. Heavier, more premium, and the standard for hospitality and executive-facing roles.
3. Metal and enamel badges — awards, national day, membership
Die-struck brass or metal with baked enamel colour. These are the badges people keep. UAE flag pins, falcon badges, service-recognition pins, board-member pins, alumni badges. Higher unit cost, but they carry weight in the hand and survive being worn every day for years.

Pin, magnet or reel? The attachment decides more than you think
The badge body is only half the decision. The back fitting is what staff and guests actually complain about.
- Safety pin — cheapest and most secure, but it punctures fabric. Fine on a cotton polo or a chef jacket. Not fine on a silk blouse, a tailored blazer or an abaya, and this is the single most common complaint in hospitality and retail teams in Dubai.
- Magnet — a neodymium magnet behind the garment, no hole. The professional choice for front-of-house, luxury retail and any dress code with fine fabrics. Our magnet attachment is AED 200 per 50 (AED 4.00 each) and can be specified on most name badges. Warn staff with pacemakers, and keep magnetic badges away from hotel key cards.
- Badge reel / retractable clip — for anyone tapping an access reader all day. Usually paired with an ID card rather than a name badge; see our lanyards and ID cards range.
A practical rule for hotels and clinics: order magnet backs for the guest-facing 20% of your team and pins for back-of-house. It costs a few dirhams more per badge and eliminates the fabric-damage argument entirely.
Sizes, artwork and what actually prints well
The standard round button is 44 mm. Awareness and lapel pins sit at 15–25 mm. Rectangular name badges typically run 70 × 20 mm to 80 × 25 mm — enough for a first name at a readable size plus a role line underneath.
Three artwork rules that prevent 90% of badge reprints:
- Keep 4 mm clear of the edge on button badges. The printed sheet wraps around the shell rim, so anything near the edge disappears around the curve. Text that looked centred in the file ends up cropped.
- Set names at 14 pt minimum. A name badge exists to be read from a metre away without the guest leaning in. If the job title needs to be there, put it on a second line at 9–10 pt.
- Send vector logos. Enamel and injected badges are made from a die — the artwork is cut, not printed. A JPEG logo pulled from a website cannot be turned into a clean die. Send AI, EPS or PDF. If you only have a raster file, our design team will redraw it; that is included, not billed extra.
Enamel badges also have a colour limit. Each colour is a separate enamel fill inside a metal wall, so gradients and photographic images do not work — those belong on button or lens-cover badges. Two to four flat colours is the sweet spot.
How to order badges in Dubai
- Send us the logo and the name list. WhatsApp +971 52 210 0909 with your artwork and, for name badges, an Excel or Word list of names exactly as they should be printed — including how each person spells their own name. Do not retype it later; typos cost a reprint.
- Confirm badge type and attachment. Tell us the fabric your team wears and we will recommend pin or magnet.
- Approve the digital proof. You get a layout showing the badge at actual size with a sample name. Check the longest name in your list — that is the one that breaks a layout.
- Production and delivery. Button and lens-cover badges are the fastest; enamel and die-struck metal badges take longer because of the tooling stage. Delivery across Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. If you have a fixed event date, say so before you pay so we can confirm the schedule against it.

Can I have different names on each badge?
Yes — variable names are standard on name badges at no extra charge. Send the list in a spreadsheet with one name per row. For lens cover and insert badges you can also order spare blank frames now and print new name cards later, which is why hotels with seasonal staff usually choose them.
Are magnetic badges better than pins?
For guest-facing staff in fine fabrics, yes — magnets leave no hole and look neater on a uniform. For back-of-house teams in cotton or polyester workwear, pins are more secure and cheaper. Magnets should be avoided by anyone with a pacemaker and kept away from hotel key cards and magnetic-stripe cards.
How long does badge production take?
