The sleeve question, answered properly
A cup sleeve exists for one reason: a single-wall paper cup transmits heat straight into the customer's hand. The sleeve is a patch for a cup that is not insulated.
A double-wall cup solves the same problem structurally — an air gap between two layers of board — and it solves it better, because the sleeve slides, gets removed and thrown away, and turns your branding into litter halfway through the drink. It also costs you twice: you buy the cup, then you buy the sleeve, then you print both.
So the decision is simple:
- Single-wall cups + printed sleeves — makes sense if you already hold single-wall stock, or if you want a two-tone look with a kraft sleeve over a white cup. It is two SKUs to manage and two print runs to approve.
- Double-wall cups, no sleeve — one SKU, one print run, a cleaner surface for your artwork, and nothing for the customer to peel off. This is what most specialty cafés in Dubai now run.
The exception worth knowing: sleeves are genuinely useful as a seasonal layer. Your base cup stays the same all year, and you print a small run of sleeves for Ramadan, National Day or a collaboration — a cheap way to refresh the look without reprinting twenty thousand cups. That is a real strategy, and it is the only sleeve argument that survives the maths.
Lids: the upgrade that actually changes the drink
Lids are where cafés under-spend and customers notice. Three things separate a good lid from a cheap one:
- Seal. A lid that pops off in a delivery bag ruins the order and the review. A premium lid clicks and holds under pressure.
- Sip opening. The shape of the opening controls how the coffee hits the palate. Specialty cafés care about this; a wider, flatter sip lid gives you the aroma, a small round hole gives you a scald.

- The cup. Biggest surface, longest hold time, most likely to be photographed. Print it properly and print it in full colour.
- The lid. Seen in every top-down photo, and the piece most responsible for whether a delivery order arrives intact.
