The short answer: embroider polo shirts and caps, use DTF for full-colour artwork and short runs on t-shirts, and keep vinyl for one-off names, numbers and sample pieces. Embroidery is the only one of the three that survives industrial laundry indefinitely, and its cost barely moves between 50 pieces and 5,000. DTF prints photographs and gradients that stitching physically cannot hold. Vinyl is the cheapest way to put one name on one shirt and the most expensive way to brand 500. This guide compares the three on durability, fabric compatibility, minimum quantities and real per-piece prices in the UAE.

The three methods at a glance

  Embroidery DTF Vinyl (heat transfer)
How it works Logo digitised into stitches, sewn into the fabric Artwork printed to film, powdered, heat-pressed onto the garment Coloured film cut to shape, weeded by hand, heat-pressed
Colour limit Practical limit around 8–12 thread colours Unlimited, including photos and gradients One colour per layer; 3+ colours becomes uneconomic
Best size Left chest, cap front, sleeve — up to ~10 cm Anything from a pocket logo to a full A3 back print Names, numbers, simple shapes
Wash life Outlives the garment; safe for industrial laundry 50+ domestic washes when pressed correctly Lifts at the edges first; weakest of the three
Sensible minimum 25–50 pieces (digitising is a one-off setup) No real minimum; economical from 10 pieces 1 piece
Fabrics Pique, twill, canvas, heavy cotton, cap fronts Cotton, polyester, blends, dark garments Cotton and polyester; poor on textured knits

Embroidery: the default for anything a customer sees up close

Embroidery is not printing at all. Your logo is digitised — converted into a stitch file that tells the machine the order, direction and density of every stitch — and then sewn into the cloth. Nothing sits on the surface, so there is nothing to crack, peel or fade. That single property is why reception teams, clinics, hotels, facilities companies and anyone whose uniforms go to a commercial laundry end up here.

The economics are different from print, and this is the part most people get wrong. Digitising is a one-time setup per logo. After that, the machine cost per piece is roughly flat: 60 polo shirts and 600 polo shirts cost almost the same per unit to embroider. Print methods get steadily cheaper as volume rises; embroidery does not, but it starts from a reasonable place and never surprises you.

Where embroidery fails is detail. Thread has a physical width, so text below about 4 mm cap height turns into a blur, hairline rules disappear, and photographic artwork is simply out of scope. If your logo has a gradient, a drop shadow or six-point strapline text, you have two options: simplify it into a stitchable mark, or move to DTF.

Typical embroidery jobs from our fabric printing range: left-chest logos on the EDNC Santhome polo at AED 7.00 for high-headcount teams, or on the TECK DryNCool polo with UV protection at AED 28.00 where staff work outdoors. For caps, embroidery is effectively the only serious option — see the full caps and headwear range.

DTF: when the artwork is too complicated to stitch

Direct-to-film printing puts your artwork on a transfer film, coats it in adhesive powder, cures it, and heat-presses it onto the garment. Because it is digital, there is no screen setup and no colour count — a four-colour logo costs the same as a photograph. That makes it the right method in three situations: full-colour or photographic artwork, runs too short to justify screen setup, and dark garments where you need a solid white underbase.

DTF also prints on blends and polyester that resist other methods, which matters for sports and event kit. A Core365 Santhome performance t-shirt at AED 14.50 takes DTF cleanly; so does the SELECT 180 cotton roundneck at AED 4.00, which is the volume workhorse for campaign and event shirts.

The trade-off is hand feel and heat. A DTF print is a thin flexible layer sitting on the fabric — you can feel it, especially on a large back print. It handles domestic washing well at 30°C inside-out, but repeated industrial laundry at high temperature with harsh chemistry will shorten its life. If the garment goes to a laundry contract, embroider it.

Vinyl: right for one, wrong for one hundred

Heat-transfer vinyl is a coloured film that gets plotter-cut to shape, weeded by hand and pressed on. Every extra colour is a separate layer, cut and pressed separately, and every piece is handled individually — so unlike DTF and embroidery, vinyl's cost per piece does not fall with volume. It rises with complexity and stays flat with quantity.

That makes vinyl genuinely useful in a narrow band: player names and squad numbers, a single sample shirt before a big order, a last-minute replacement for a staff member who joined after the main run, or bold one-colour text on a handful of event tees. Outside that band it is the wrong tool. Vinyl also lifts at the corners before it fades, so it ages visibly on a uniform that gets washed twice a week.

Choosing by role, not by taste

The fastest way to decide is to look at how the garment is washed and who sees it.

  • Reception, retail floor, clinics, hotel front-of-house: embroidered pique polo. Seen at conversation distance, washed constantly, and the stitching reads as considered rather than promotional.
  • Facilities, warehouse, kitchen, anything on a laundry contract: embroidery, no exceptions. Print methods do not survive high-temperature commercial washing on a repeat cycle.
  • Outdoor teams and site staff: embroidery on a moisture-managing performance polo. The TECK DryNCool with UV protection at AED 28.00 is the usual pick for summer months.
  • Exhibitions, campaigns, sports days, National Day: DTF on cotton tees. The artwork is usually full-colour, the garment is worn a handful of times, and the SELECT 180 at AED 4.00 keeps the budget sane across a few hundred pieces.
  • Names, numbers, one-offs and replacements: vinyl. It is the only method that makes sense at quantity one.

Mixed teams are normal: embroidered polos for the permanent staff and DTF t-shirts for the event crew, ordered together. If you are also building an onboarding or event kit, pair the garments with items from the corporate gift items range.

How to order

  1. Send artwork and quantity on WhatsApp +971 52 210 0909, or call 0522100909. A vector file — AI, EPS, SVG or a print-ready PDF — is what you want for embroidery and screen; 300 dpi at final size is the minimum for DTF.
  2. We confirm the method against your fabric, logo detail and wash regime, and quote the final per-piece price.
  3. Approve the proof. For embroidery you approve a stitch-out or digital simulation; for DTF a colour proof. Design is free with every order through the free design service if you do not have print-ready files.
  4. Production runs 3–5 working days after final artwork approval. Delivery covers Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, and is free over AED 800.

Sizing is worth checking in person before a large uniform order. Samples and fabric swatches are at 32 Sheikh Zayed Road, Office 706, Dubai, open 09:00–21:00 daily, closed Sunday.

Frequently asked questions

Which lasts longer, embroidery or DTF?

Embroidery. The logo is stitched into the fabric, so it typically outlives the garment and handles industrial laundry. A correctly pressed DTF print holds well past 50 domestic washes but degrades faster under high-temperature commercial washing.

Is embroidery more expensive than printing?

At low quantities, usually not — DTF and embroidery land close together on 25–50 pieces. At 500+ pieces of a simple one- or two-colour design, screen printing becomes the cheaper option because the cost per piece keeps falling, while embroidery stays roughly flat.

Can you embroider a detailed logo with small text?

Up to a point. Thread has physical width, so text under roughly 4 mm cap height and hairline detail will not read cleanly. Send the logo before you order and we will tell you whether it needs simplifying for stitch or is better suited to DTF.

What is the minimum order for uniform branding?

There is no hard minimum on DTF, and vinyl works from a single piece. Embroidery is sensible from about 25–50 pieces because digitising is a one-off setup per logo. For a single sample, the custom-printed t-shirt at AED 240.00 has no minimum.

Will DTF crack on polyester workwear?

Not if it is pressed to spec. DTF bonds well to polyester and blends — better than several older methods. What shortens its life is high-temperature industrial washing and tumble drying, not the fabric itself. Wash inside-out at 30°C and it holds.

How long does a uniform order take in Dubai?

Standard production is 3–5 working days after final artwork approval, for both embroidery and print. Large multi-size uniform rollouts are worth booking a week ahead of your date.

Do prices include VAT and the logo?

Yes. Every price shown on the product page includes VAT and includes your logo branding.
