A loyalty card is the cheapest repeat-purchase tool a Dubai business can buy, and the easiest to get wrong at the print stage. Real prices first: 1,000 unlaminated stamp cards are AED 89, 1,000 matt-laminated cards AED 119, 1,000 thick 760 micron rounded-corner cards AED 289, and PVC membership cards with barcoding are listed from AED 565. The single most common mistake: laminating a card you intend to stamp with ink. Stamp ink does not dry on a laminated surface — it smudges in the customer's wallet and your scheme looks cheap by visit three. Here is how to specify a loyalty card that survives ten visits.

Three loyalty mechanics — and the card each one needs

Decide the mechanic before the material. Everything downstream follows from it.

1. The ink stamp. Still the best mechanic for coffee shops, salons, car washes and bakeries, because the stamp is a small physical ceremony and the customer sees progress. It requires an uncoated or unlaminated surface. The right product is 1,000 art paper cards with no lamination at AED 89 — 8.9 fils per card, and ink dries on contact.

2. The hole punch. Preferred by anyone who has watched a stamp pad dry out on a Friday night. A punch works on any stock, and it works better on laminated and thick stock because the card does not tear at the punch mark. Here 1,000 matt-laminated 350 GSM cards at AED 119 or 400 GSM at AED 139 are correct, and round corners matter — more on that below.

3. The barcode or POS-linked card. For anything where you want data: spend tracking, tiers, expiry, a customer database. This needs a PVC card, not paper. Membership cards with bar coding are listed from AED 565 and with a signature strip from AED 525, both on thick PVC with full-colour UV print at the standard 86 × 54 mm card size. PVC card runs are quoted per batch, so confirm the pack quantity on the product page before you order.

A fourth option is worth naming only to dismiss it for most businesses: the QR-code card that links to a web wallet. It is cheap to print and it fails on exactly the people loyalty schemes are meant to capture — walk-in customers who will not install anything. If you go this route, the design rules in our QR codes on business cards and menus guide decide whether it scans at all.

Size: why 9 × 5.5 cm wins

Print your loyalty card at the standard UAE business card size, 9 × 5.5 cm. Not because it is traditional, but because it is the only size that fits the card slot of a wallet, a phone case and a car visor without being folded. A folded loyalty card is a lost loyalty card.

The two sizes worth considering instead:

  • 86 × 54 mm (credit-card size) for PVC membership cards. Marginally smaller, and the size every wallet, card holder and POS reader is built around.
  • 5 × 7 cm for tear-off voucher books, where the card is a coupon rather than something kept. More on that below.

Resist the temptation to go bigger so you can fit ten stamp boxes comfortably. Six to eight boxes on a 9 × 5.5 cm card at 10 mm each is perfectly legible, and a scheme that completes in six visits gets completed far more often than one that needs twelve.

Material and finish: the lamination trap, and when to spend more

Here is the specification logic, in order of cost:

  • Art paper, no lamination — AED 89 / 1,000. The only correct choice for ink stamps. Also takes a pen, so staff can write a date or initial. Lowest durability: expect it to look worn after two months in a wallet, which is usually fine because the scheme completes before then.
  • 350 GSM matt laminated — AED 119 / 1,000 (AED 99 for 500). Matt lamination is the sweet spot for punch and signature schemes: it takes ballpoint ink, resists finger grease, and survives a wallet. Do not use it for rubber stamps.
  • 400 GSM matt laminated — AED 139 / 1,000. Noticeably stiffer. Worth the AED 20 if the card has to survive a gym bag.
  • Glossy laminated — AED 139 / 1,000. Photographs and food imagery pop. Shows fingerprints, and pen will not stay on it.
  • Round corners — AED 159 / 1,000 matt laminated. The cheapest durability upgrade in this list and the most underrated. Square corners fray and curl in a wallet within weeks; round corners stay presentable for the life of the scheme. For AED 40 per thousand, always.
  • 760 micron PET glossy laminated, rounded corners — AED 289 / 1,000. Near-plastic thickness at paper prices. This is the card for a scheme designed to last a year — clinics, salons, members' clubs. Note the lead time: 10 business days, not 5.
  • Velvet laminated, rounded corners, spot UV, 760 micron — AED 420 / 1,000. The premium end. Soft-touch finish that feels like a private-club card. Justified when the card itself is part of the offer.

Two upgrades that pull their weight for a card customers see ten times: spot UV at AED 229 per 1,000 (AED 189 for 500) raises gloss on the logo only while keeping a writable matt body, and gold foil at AED 299 per 1,000 does the same job louder. If you want the full comparison, our spot UV, foiling and embossing guide covers how each finish behaves in practice.

Testing a scheme before committing? Digital short runs exist for exactly that: 100 cards at AED 140 or 250 at AED 200. Print 250, run the scheme for a month, then order 1,000 of whatever actually worked.

Loyalty card or voucher book? The numbering question

These solve different problems and businesses routinely buy the wrong one.

A loyalty card rewards accumulated visits. One card per customer, no tracking needed, no fraud exposure worth worrying about. Cost: 8.9 fils to 29 fils each.

A voucher grants a single named benefit, and the moment real money is attached you need numbering and a controlled stub. The 20-book voucher run at AED 1,000 gives you 1,000 numbered 5 × 7 cm vouchers on 170 GSM glossy, double-sided, with perforation — exactly AED 1.00 per voucher, with 50 leaves per book. Sequential numbering is what lets you reconcile redemptions against the book stub and spot duplicates. Browse the full voucher and numbered print range if the scheme involves discounts rather than visits.

For service businesses that need a record both sides keep — garages, clinics, equipment servicing — NCR duplicate books from AED 265 for 5 A5 books are the right instrument, not a loyalty card.

Six design rules that make a loyalty card actually get used

  1. Put the reward on the front, in words, in a size you can read in a queue. “Buy 6, get 1 free” beats a logo and a row of empty circles every time.
  2. Six to eight boxes, not twelve. Completion rate falls off a cliff past eight. If your margin needs twelve visits, run two cards instead.
  3. Leave the back for terms, branch list and expiry. Print an expiry date — open-ended schemes become an accounting liability and a staffing argument.
  4. Make the stamp box bigger than the stamp. 10–12 mm boxes for a standard 8 mm rubber stamp. Staff aiming at a 6 mm box in a rush produces a card that looks vandalised.
  5. Bilingual if your customers are. Arabic and English on one card is standard UAE practice and costs nothing extra — but proof the Arabic separately. Arabic that has lost its letter joins in PDF export is the most common error we catch, and it is invisible to anyone checking the English.
  6. Add your WhatsApp number, not just your Instagram handle. A loyalty card is a direct channel; use it as one.

Which card for which Dubai business

Coffee shops and bakeries: art paper no lamination, AED 89 per 1,000, six stamp boxes. Highest volume, fastest completion, lowest cost per acquired repeat visit.

Salons, barbers and nail bars: matt laminated round corners at AED 159, punch mechanic, eight visits. Cards live in handbags for months, so durability earns its keep — our clinics and salons printing guide covers the appointment card that should go out alongside it.

Gyms and studios: PVC with barcoding from AED 565, or 760 micron PET at AED 289 if the card is for class packs rather than access. See the gym and fitness printing guide for membership card and signage pricing together.

Restaurants and cloud kitchens: numbered voucher books at AED 1.00 per voucher, dropped into delivery bags. A stamp card never reaches a delivery customer; a numbered voucher does.

Retail and malls: velvet 760 micron at AED 420 for a tiered members' card, art paper at AED 89 for the entry tier. Two cards, two mechanics, one scheme.

How to order

  1. Pick the mechanic first — stamp, punch or barcode — then the stock from the table above. If you are stamping, say so when you order so lamination is not added by default.
  2. Download the guideline template from the product page for the exact bleed and safe area at 9 × 5.5 cm.
  3. Send print-ready PDF: CMYK, 300 dpi, 3 mm bleed, fonts outlined. No artwork? Send your logo, the offer and the number of boxes — design support is included, not billed separately.
  4. Approve the proof. Check the offer wording, expiry, branch list, Arabic text and WhatsApp number. Production starts at approval.
  5. Order one round of 1,000, not 5,000. Loyalty offers get revised after the first month. The saving on 5,000 is not worth printing last month's offer.

Frequently asked questions

How much do 1,000 loyalty cards cost in Dubai?

AED 89 for unlaminated art paper (the correct stock for ink stamps), AED 119 for 350 GSM matt laminated, AED 159 with round corners, and AED 289 for thick 760 micron PET cards. All VAT inclusive.

Why can't I laminate a stamp card?

Rubber-stamp ink does not absorb into a laminated surface. It sits on top, stays wet, and transfers onto whatever the card touches. If your scheme uses an ink stamp, order art paper with no lamination. If you want a laminated card, switch the mechanic to a hole punch or a signature.

What size should a loyalty card be?

9 × 5.5 cm — standard UAE business card size — so it fits a wallet card slot and a phone case. PVC membership cards are 86 × 54 mm, the credit-card standard that POS readers and card holders are built for.

Can I get loyalty cards with a barcode or QR code?

Yes. Barcoded PVC membership cards are listed from AED 565 per batch for POS-linked schemes. QR codes can be printed on any paper card at no extra cost — keep the code at least 2 cm square with clear quiet space around it, and test the printed card with three different phones before you approve a thousand.

How long does production take?

Around 5 business days from final artwork approval for standard paper cards, 10 business days for 760 micron thick cards. Digital short runs of 100–250 cards are faster. The clock starts when you approve the proof, not when you place the order.

Should I print an expiry date on the card?

Yes — print both an expiry and the terms. It closes off disputes at the counter, lets you retire an offer cleanly, and keeps the scheme's liability defined rather than open-ended. Your accountant will also want voucher terms stated clearly; worth a five-minute conversation before you print.

Can I order a small test run first?

Yes. Digital printing starts at 100 cards for AED 140 and 250 for AED 200 — enough to run a scheme for a month and fix the offer before committing to 1,000.
