Types of Fabrics

Knitted Polyester — light, breathable, slight give; the usual choice for indoor banners and event backdrops

Satin – Gloss or Matt — smoother surface and richer colour; gloss lifts photographs, matt kills glare under spotlights and on camera

Block Out — an opaque core so nothing shows through from the other side; use it for double-sided banners and for anything hung against light
Edge Finish

Clean Cut — cheapest, for short-term indoor use

Hem — folded and stitched edge that stops fraying; the standard finish

Reinforced — webbing sewn into the hem for outdoor and windy sites

Choosing the combination
Indoor, short event: knitted polyester, clean cut or hem, grommets. Outdoors or exposed to wind: block out or satin, reinforced hem, grommets or rope sewn. Hung over a walkway with people on both sides: block out, double-sided print, pole pocket or D-ring.
