A backlit backdrop in Dubai starts at AED 2,950 for an aluminium profile frame at 1.5 × 2 m, VAT included, and rises to AED 22,050 for a 4 × 2.5 m wooden structure with a full LED system behind it. The price gap is not margin — it is frame material, print substrate and how the light is built in. This guide breaks down the four frame types we build, the three backlit print materials and when each is correct, the real prices at real sizes, and the artwork rules that stop a backlit graphic looking washed out when the LEDs go on.

What "backlit" actually means in practice

A standard backdrop is lit from the front by whatever the venue gives you — which in a hotel ballroom is usually not enough, and in a mall atrium is usually the wrong colour temperature. A backlit backdrop carries its own LED system behind a translucent print, so the graphic is the light source. Three consequences follow, and they are the reason people pay for it:

  • It photographs consistently. Step-and-repeat walls, award ceremonies and press lines live or die on how the brand reads in photos. A backlit wall looks the same at 9pm as it did at 9am, regardless of what the venue does with its house lights.
  • It is visible across a hall. At an exhibition with 300 stands competing, an illuminated wall reads from the far aisle. A printed PVC banner does not.
  • Colour stays saturated. Deep brand colours — navy, maroon, black — go flat and grey under weak front lighting. Lit from behind, they hold.

The trade-offs are weight, power and setup time. Every backlit structure needs a power feed at the wall, so you confirm the socket position with the venue before you confirm the size. And the frame types below are not interchangeable: one packs into a trolley bag, one needs a crew and a van.

The four frame types, and what each costs

1. Aluminium profile frame — the workhorse

The aluminium profile backlit backdrop at AED 2,950 starts at 1.5 × 2 m and is the option we recommend first for most briefs. It is an aluminium extrusion frame with a digitally printed backlit fabric panel and an integrated LED system, rated for indoor and outdoor use, printed single side. Aluminium is the right default because it is light enough to be handled by two people, rigid enough not to twist, and the fabric panel is replaceable — next year's campaign is a new print into the same frame, not a new wall.

2. Backlit fabric pop-up — the one that travels

The backlit fabric pop-up (straight) at AED 3,450 is the format for teams who exhibit more than once a year. It comes in a wheeled trolley bag, assembles without tools, and ships in two sizes:

  • 3 × 3 type: print area 288 × 225 cm, visible area 225 × 225 cm, 16 kg.
  • 4 × 3 type: print area 362 × 225 cm, visible area 299 × 225 cm, 18 kg.

Note the gap between print area and view area — that difference is the fabric that wraps into the frame channel. Artwork set to the view area will lose its edges; artwork set to the print area is correct. This is the single most common file error we catch on pop-ups. Our pop-up and fabric display stand guide covers the non-lit versions of the same frames.

3. Iron frame — the heavy-duty build

The iron frame backlit backdrop at AED 8,500 starts at 1.5 × 2 m and uses backlit flex rather than fabric, with an LED system behind it, for indoor or outdoor installation. Iron is for a structure that stays up: a permanent feature wall in a showroom, a long-run mall activation, an outdoor stage wall that has to take wind load. It is not a travelling display. Where you see iron specified, it is usually because the install is multi-week and the structure is carrying its own weight plus wind rather than being packed down nightly.

4. Wooden frame — the premium finish

The wooden frame backlit backdrop at AED 11,500 starts at 1.5 × 2 m and is built differently: a wooden structure with an acrylic panel, a digitally printed backlit vinyl graphic and an LED system behind. The acrylic is what you are paying for. It diffuses the LEDs into an even sheet of light with no hotspots and no visible fabric weave, which is why this is the specification for showroom walls, luxury retail, hotel lobbies and awards stages where the surface is viewed from a metre away.

At larger sizes the same construction is priced as a full backdrop: 3 × 2.5 m with backlit at AED 14,175 and 4 × 2.5 m with backlit at AED 22,050. If you want the same wooden build without the lighting, the backdrop and standee guide has those prices.

Sizes above the starting dimension are quoted per square metre on the same build, so a 3 × 2.5 m aluminium wall is not three times the 1.5 × 2 m price — send your dimensions and we price the actual panel.

Backlit standees: the same effect, a tenth of the footprint

If you do not have 2 metres of wall, a backlit standee does most of the work at reception, beside a lift lobby or at the entrance to a session room. Four builds, all starting at 0.5 × 1 m: the Forex frame backlit standee at AED 1,850 (Forex board with an acrylic panel and backlit vinyl), the aluminium profile backlit standee at AED 2,350, the iron frame backlit standee at AED 3,650 and the wooden frame backlit standee at AED 4,850. The Forex version is the budget light box and the one most often ordered in pairs to flank an entrance.

When a backlit backdrop is not worth it

Three honest cases where you should order a standard display instead. First, a one-day internal town hall in a well-lit room: a seamless indoor fabric backdrop at AED 1,650 photographs perfectly well and costs a fifth of the aluminium light box. Second, an event where you cannot guarantee a power point within reach of the wall — organisers at some Dubai venues charge for a dedicated feed, which can erase the saving. Third, a stand where the wall will be mostly covered by shelving, screens or product: you are lighting cardboard. In that case put the money into illuminated 3D letter signage above the stand instead, where nothing blocks it.

Artwork rules for backlit printing

Backlit graphics are not the same file as a front-lit banner, and the differences cost money if missed:

  • Build in extra density. Light passing through a print lifts every value. Mid-tones that look right on screen go pale on a lit panel; dark areas need more ink than a front-lit equivalent to hold depth.
  • Avoid large flat light areas. A full-bleed white or pale panel is where hotspots and LED striping show. Brand colour as the field with reversed-out white type is the safest backlit design.
  • Design to print area, not view area. On the pop-up that means 288 × 225 cm for a 3 × 3 and 362 × 225 cm for a 4 × 3 — keep all critical content well inside the visible region.
  • Keep type large and keep it off the joins. On multi-panel walls the seam lines are visible when lit, so set text within a panel rather than across two.
  • Send vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF) or raster at the correct resolution for the final size. Our print-ready artwork checklist and large format printing guide have the resolution tables.

How to order a backlit backdrop in Dubai

  1. Send three things: the finished wall size you want, the venue, and the install and dismantle dates. Venue matters because loading access and power position change the build.
  2. Confirm the power feed. Ask the organiser where the nearest socket is and whether a dedicated feed is chargeable. Do this before you approve a size.
  3. Pick the frame by lifespan, not by look. Travelling to three events this year: fabric pop-up. One stand, one week: aluminium. Permanent or outdoor: iron. Showroom or premium stage: wooden with acrylic.
  4. Approve the artwork proof. You get a layout at the print dimensions with the frame-wrap allowance marked, before anything goes to the printer.
  5. Book the build window. Wooden backdrop structures run on a 5–6 working day production schedule after final design approval; aluminium and fabric systems are faster. Delivery is across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the rest of the UAE, and all prices are VAT inclusive.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a backlit backdrop cost in Dubai?

From AED 2,950 for an aluminium profile frame at 1.5 × 2 m with backlit fabric and an LED system, VAT included. A travelling backlit fabric pop-up is AED 3,450, an iron frame build is AED 8,500, and a wooden frame with an acrylic diffuser panel is AED 11,500. Large wooden backlit walls are AED 14,175 at 3 × 2.5 m and AED 22,050 at 4 × 2.5 m.

What is the difference between backlit fabric, backlit flex and backlit vinyl?

Backlit fabric is used in aluminium profile and pop-up systems — lightweight, tensioned into a channel, no glass or acrylic needed. Backlit flex is the heavier substrate used on iron frames, suited to large outdoor panels. Backlit vinyl is mounted behind an acrylic panel in the wooden builds, which gives the most even light and the cleanest close-up finish.

Can a backlit backdrop be used outdoors?

Yes. The aluminium profile and iron frame builds are both rated indoor and outdoor. For outdoor use, the governing factors are wind load and how the structure is weighted or fixed, so tell us whether the location is open or sheltered when you ask for the size. For fully exposed outdoor sites, an iron frame with backlit flex is the specification.

Can I reuse the frame and just reprint the graphic?

That is the main reason to buy aluminium. The fabric panel is a separate, replaceable part, so a rebrand or a new campaign is a reprint into the frame you already own. Wooden and iron builds are usually project-specific structures rather than reusable kit.

How long does production take?

Wooden backdrop structures are built on a 5–6 working day schedule after final artwork approval. Aluminium profile and fabric pop-up systems are quicker. Tell us the install date first and we work backwards; exhibition season in Dubai compresses everybody's schedule, so the exhibition print checklist has the booking windows to aim for.

Do you install at the venue?

Tell us the venue, the install window and the dismantle time when you order. Access rules differ across Dubai venues — most restrict loading hours and require a named contact for the delivery — so this is settled a week out rather than on the day.
