For most Dubai events the answer is simple: a roll-up banner at AED 190 if you need one portable graphic you can carry in a car, a spring A-frame from AED 900 if the display lives outside a shop or venue entrance all day, and a fabric pop-up from AED 1,690 if you need a full 3 × 2.25 m wall behind a stand. X-banners sit below all three on durability and are rarely worth the saving. Below is the honest comparison — real sizes, real weights, real MaxPrint prices — and the deciding questions that stop you buying the wrong format.
The four formats, and what each is actually for
Roll-up (pull-up) banners
The workhorse. A printed graphic rolls into an aluminium cassette base, pulls up against a telescopic pole, and packs into a shoulder bag in under a minute. One person, no tools. Our 1 Roll-up Banner 85 × 200 cm is AED 190 with full-colour single-side print and 3 working days from artwork approval — the cheapest credible branded display in the store.
Where roll-ups struggle: wind, and width. Anything beyond 100 cm wide needs a wide-base cassette, which is why the 150 × 200 cm jumps to AED 950 and the 300 × 200 cm to AED 1,680. At those widths a fabric pop-up is usually the better buy.
X-banners and spider stands
An X-frame tensions a printed panel at four grommets. They are light, cheap and genuinely fine for a one-day indoor activation where the panel gets thrown away afterwards. But the frame flexes, the panel ripples under any air-conditioning draught, and the grommets are the failure point — tear one and the whole panel is scrap. For anything you will reuse across a season of events, the roll-up cassette protects the print between uses and the X-frame does not. That is the real reason we steer repeat clients to roll-ups.
A-frames (spring A-boards)
The format for the pavement, the mall concourse and the hotel entrance — somewhere a display has to stand unattended in moving air and get knocked without falling over. The sprung frame is the point: it absorbs a knock and springs back instead of toppling. Three sizes:
- Spring A-Board S — 80 × 115 cm display area — AED 900
- Spring A-Board M — 90 × 190 cm — AED 1,000
- Spring A-Board L — 110 × 260 cm — AED 1,110
Note how flat that price curve is: the L is 2.5× the display area of the S for 23% more money. If the board is going outdoors anyway, size up.
Pop-up and fabric display walls
When you need a wall, not a sign. A collapsible aluminium frame carries a single seamless printed fabric panel, arrives in a wheeled trolley bag and goes up in 10–15 minutes without tools. Our Fabric Pop-up (Straight) at AED 1,690 gives a 3 × 3 configuration with a 288 × 225 cm print area, 225 × 225 cm visible, at 12 kg; the 4 × 3 steps up to 362 × 225 cm print and 15 kg. The curved version is AED 2,150. Full detail in our pop-up and fabric display stands guide.

Five questions that pick the format for you
- Indoors or outdoors? Outdoors in Dubai means wind, and wind decides everything. A roll-up with a 7 kg base will go over in a gusty afternoon on Sheikh Zayed Road; a sprung A-frame will not. Outdoor display, standing unattended: A-frame or a weighted flag, never a roll-up.
- How often does it travel? Weekly transport favours a hardcase pop-up — the case is the protection, and the AED 160 difference between the softcase and hardcase straight versions is less than one replacement graphic.
- Does the message change? If the offer changes monthly, buy one frame and reprint the graphic. If it is a logo wall that stays the same for two years, spend on the better frame.
- Who sets it up? A roll-up is one person, one minute. A 4 × 3 pop-up is two people, 15 minutes, and 15 kg to carry. Match the format to whoever will actually be on site.
- Is there power at the stand? Backlit fabric systems at AED 3,450–3,950 transform a dim hall corner, but they need a socket. Confirm the power drop with the organiser before you order one. Our backlit backdrop guide covers the lighting options.
Artwork: the three numbers that matter
The print area is never the visible area. On the Fabric Pop-up Straight 3 × 3, the panel prints 288 × 225 cm but only 225 × 225 cm is visible once it is tensioned over the curve of the frame — so your logo and key line must sit inside a safe zone about 30 cm in from each edge. The same applies to roll-ups: the bottom 5–8 cm disappears into the cassette, and on a crowded stand the lowest 60 cm is blocked by people anyway.
Three rules that cover almost every job:
- Keep the message above 1 m. On a 200 cm roll-up, everything that must be read goes in the top 120 cm.
- Supply at 1:1 scale at 150 dpi, or 1:10 at 300 dpi, CMYK, fonts outlined, 3 mm bleed. Large-format printing is forgiving on resolution and unforgiving on colour mode — see our CMYK vs RGB guide.
- Avoid solid dark backgrounds on fabric. Fabric panels crease in transit; creases show far more on a solid navy or black than on a light or patterned ground.
How to order
Tell us three things: where the display will stand, how big the space is, and the event date. We confirm the format, send a template at the right print and visible dimensions, then produce from your approved proof — 3 working days for roll-up banners, 5 working days for A-boards, pop-up systems and flags. Delivery is free across Dubai and 1–2 days more to the other emirates. If you are building a full exhibition stand rather than a single display, start from our exhibition print checklist, which sets out the booking timeline.
FAQ
Is an X-banner ever the right choice?
For a single-day indoor activation with a disposable panel, yes — it is light and cheap. For anything you will store and reuse, a roll-up at AED 190 is better value because the cassette protects the graphic between events, which is where X-banner panels get damaged.
Which is better outdoors: A-frame or roll-up?
A-frame, without qualification. The sprung frame absorbs knocks and resists wind; a roll-up's narrow base does neither. The Spring A-Board M at AED 1,000 is the standard choice for a shop or venue entrance.
Can I reprint just the graphic and keep the frame?
Yes, on A-frames and pop-up systems — the frame is the durable asset and the panel is the consumable. Roll-up cassettes can sometimes be re-skinned, but on the 85 × 200 cm unit at AED 190 a whole new banner usually costs about the same as the labour, so most clients simply reorder.
How many people do I need to set up a pop-up?
Two for anything 3 × 3 or larger. The frame expands easily but holding 288 cm of tensioned fabric square while you clip it is a two-person job. Budget 10–15 minutes, and unpack the fabric the night before so creases drop out.
Straight or curved pop-up?
Curved reads as more premium and hides a messy corner behind it; straight gives you more usable flat graphic per dirham and sits tighter against a wall. In a 3 × 3 island stand, curved. Against a shell-scheme wall, straight.
What is the cheapest branded display that still looks professional?
The 85 × 200 cm roll-up at AED 190. Below that price point you are into disposable panels that look it. For a retail or kiosk setup, pair one with printed danglers and a counter — the kiosk and pop-up retail branding guide has the full kit with prices.
